Hi everyone,

Here is a question that is important to me as owner of a 2014 Buick Lacrosse, but is certainly relevant to owners of other new Buick models as well (such as eg. the REGAL). The 2015 or 2016 model years of these Buick models have been factory shipped with Apple Car Play just now for the first time ever, while the Radio/Navigational unit is otherwise the same (Buick intellilink has been Standard for years already). Essentially, the appearance of the entire Radio/Navigation unit has not changed at all, except that with the new 2015 model year you will find the apple car Play Icon which pops up on the Screen as soon as your iphone has been connected to the usb -port in the center arm rest.

Does anybody know if my 2014 Buick Lacrosse (with Navigation and Bose Sound System) can be fitted with either new Hardware or a Software update to get "apple car Play", which is now beeing offered in all 2016 models?

I do NOT want a brandnew Radio by another brand (which would have apple car Play on board) as I am aware which are available out there.
If Hardware Needs to be added or exchanged which parts would that be without changing the current appearance of the existing original Nav/Radio Monitor in this still very new car.

Any ideas will be appreciated... thanks!

Thanks to all of you that are Aware of reasonalbe Options for this Addition....
Best,
Klaus

HI there Klaus,

Did you ever get a response on this or get anything figure out? I would like to know the same. I did see there are some companies out there (3rd Party) that sell add-ons to the factory radio system to allow this but 700 dollars is a bit overboard for this.

Anyone ever solve this riddle?

KMiller,

I can't answer the LaCrosse Questions.
They don't show the LaCrosse on the Website, but Contact WAMS, I'm sure they can answer whether it can or not.
I do know that there is an Upgrade offered for the 2014 and 2015 Buick Regals.
I also know they state: You must have an 8" Touchscreen.

The 2014-2015 Buick Regal didn't ship with Car Play or Android Auto as MelsREgal Stated above.
They didn't release it in the Regal until 2016.
Then, for about half the year, they only had Car Play, you had to go to the Dealership to get Android Auto installed on the early 2016's.

I purchased my 2015 Regal about 3.5 years ago.
It didn't have the Car Play/Android Auto Features, but it does now!

I Purchased a Used 2.5 HMI Module and a Used Radio Module on Ebay,
then sent them away to have them Programmed to my Regal's VIN.
(If you purchased Used, you'll need to buy from a list on the WAMS Website)
I sent them to White Automotive and Media Services, it wasn't cheap at nearly $1000 (that price included the Used Parts and WAMS Service).
They might be cheaper now, here's a link: WAMS
WAMS does offer New HMI and Radio Modules if you prefer not to buy Used Parts.
I really wish I would have purchased the New Parts (it's a Long Story).

When Installing: the HMI is located behind the Touchscreen, lots to remove to get the HMI out of the dash, Trim, Touchscreen, CD Player, Ash Tray/Lighter, etc...
(Plastic Pry Tools should be used to remove Trim Pieces)
The Radio Module is along the Exterior Kick Panel on the Passenger Side (the Glove Compartment must be removed to Uninstall and Reinstall). The Radio Module is really tucked down in there, kind of hard to get out. Wish I had taken pictures but I didn't, sorry!
Finally, you'll need to replace the USB with the Newer USB inside the Center Console (The New USB will No Longer have the SD Card Reader).
Again, not an easy task. There isn't much Wire to work with and there's Two Connectors. Also, not a lot of room to work in in that area.
You also need a special Tool to help remove the USB.
I made my own tool, but I now have the tool needed.
Below is a picture of the Tweezers I purchased at "Do it Best" hardware (it was in a tweezer set for about $6).
