Long story short, I was just at the end of a 200 mile road trip when my battery light started flashing. Turned out the alternator and battery both died at once. Replaced both, battery is charging, alternator works fine. Voltage is good from both (12.7 from battery and 14.3 from alternator), but the battery light is still on, just not flashing. There are no codes on the OBD scans. Car has been running fine but I'm concerned there's a short or bad ground somewhere that will kill the battery and alternator again.
The car has always had some weird "quirks". Some of the radio back lights don't work, same for the climate control lights. However, if I activate On-Star, some of the radio lights illuminate. I shrugged it off as a bad relay somewhere. The ABS and Traction Control lights are both on, but that's the rear passenger sensor needing replaced.
Thus begins my obsessive search for where the problem is. All fuses and relays are good. I noticed the front passenger speaker was giving off a static noise when the car was off, so I pulled the fuse. It stopped, I put the fuse back in, and not only does the noise resume, but my doors unlock..? I looked into the wiring diagrams and found that the radio and On-Star are both connected to the same ground, g202. I'm going to check that tomorrow to see if there's any corrosion.
So.. Does anyone have an idea of what in the world could be happening? I've been trying to figure this out for 3 weeks and I'm at a complete loss.
