I posted a month ago about an electrical issue. I’ve narrowed it down to a possibly glitchy Body Control Module. I’ve found a used BCM with the same part # from a ‘99 Riviera. (I cannot find a BCM with my part # from a LeSabre.) I’ve been told that any replacement BCM will need to be programmed to function in my car. A Buick parts salesman said he doesn’t think a used BCM will even accept reprogramming. As used BCMs are sold I imagine that is not the case.
So, will a matching, used BCM work in my LeSabre? Assuming it would be reprogrammable would I need to have a dealer do it?

Most electronics need to have the same part# and if possible make, year and model to save some compatibility problems later. Not sure where you were looking but they are on Ebay.

Hi, I lucked out with a BCM I got from eBay (for only $25!) Apparently, the part number is all that mattered as it solved my problem. It was a rather serious problem as my engine would shut down while driving. At first I assumed it was an ignition or fuel issue but, because my windows also would not work, I came to suspect the engine shutdown was related to the ignition key security which is also a BCM function.
