Bought a Loaner and Lost a Chunk of Warranty

So we bought a '24 GX back in November with 2,000 miles that the dealer was using as a service loaner. It was the only one they had with all the features we wanted on the base Preferred. Got an extra $2K off on the deal due to the 2K miles. Fine. I took it in for its first oil change yesterday and asked why myBuick shows the warranty expiring in May, not November. They called GM and were told that GM considers the in-service date as the day loaning began, NOT the first retail purchase date, like all other automakers do. Fix this GM, or this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Talk about nickel and diming cheap. BTW, the warranty does expire at 62K miles but we care more about time than mileage.

The dealership did yesterday and GM said that starting the warranty on the loaner in-service date is what they consider the warranty start date. It's just GM being cheap. And trying to sell extended warranties.
Edit 4/12: According to Google, the dealer is messed up. I'll have to call GM this week.

So, I called Buick Customer Service and they confirmed that the GM warranty begins on the date the vehicle is put into service, NOT the date of first retail delivery, the latter being the case with all other manufacturers. So, never buy a GM loaner. I'm so pissed I might never buy another GM vehicle, period. It's just disgusting.

I misread your first post as 200 miles. Yes, 2000 makes it a used vehicle. $2000 off though is not enough. Also it should have been certified preowned, which gives a 1 year bumper to bumper as well as 100k mile drivetrain warranty.

I keep saying, it was NOT preowned. It was a dealer service loaner and has the original warranty, just shorted 6 months due to the loaner bit. Never registered, had a dealer tag on it, like the ones used for test drives. I called GM, left a message and never heard a peep back. Not surprised.

That's odd. I've never seen a GM loaner car offered for sale as anything other than CPO. I almost bought a 2018 GMC Terrain Denali that was a loner in 2022. 800 miles. I thought that was a misprint. It was real. It was CPO. But it was a lot more than the 2019 Denali with 24k that I ended up buying. It was tempting though.

Check your state law, and maybe consult an attorney. In WI, and I'm sure most other states, they cannot sell a loaner or demo as new. Regardless of what they told you, it's considered a used car. What's also odd is that you should get the remainder of 3/36k warranty regardless. What it was used for shouldn't matter. That shouldn't expire for quit a while, even if they put in into service over a year ago. You'd still have at least 18 months left.

I purchased a service loaner Ford back in 2019 in another state and got the full new vehicle warranty as if it had been sitting on the new vehicle lot the whole time. Warranty started in December 2020 so the 3yr warranty ended in December 2023 rather than May 2024 but at 41,000 miles rather than 36,000. I was fine with that. Sticker was $28,000. I paid $21,000 which I feel was a great deal. Now have 60,000 miles on it with no issues.

Wow dude. Try to help out and offer someone ideas and get bashed for it. No good deed goes unpunished. My experience and knowledge is different than yours and you have a hissy fit. Why is that such a difficult concept for you? Different states have different laws around this. Where I live dealers CANNOT sell loaners or demos as new vehicles. Same for neighboring states. If you don't want comments that don't agree with yours, why did you post in the first place? And GM DOES NOT read this forum. You're trusting the dealer and GM to do the right thing, and you don't want to consult a lawyer as I suggested, that's on you. Have nice day now.

I once bought a loaner as well and didn’t have any issues regarding warranty date as far as I recall. The mileage I got it at was the same as the in service date. I guess it just depends on the dealer and how they handle stuff behind the scenes.

I think Doc Brown raises some valid points here, how can GM legally have it both ways? If the car was sold as 'new', it should be supported with a new car warranty. I think that I would continue to broadcast this on the internet. If you shout loud enough online, they will notice and likely approach you for a settlement.
