Buick Ownership
1963 Wildcat comvertible
Hi Buick buddies,
I have a 63 Wildcat convertible.
About 10 days ago I noticed my brake lights are not coming on. I checked the connection at the switch which is screwed into the front of the master cylinder. I checked the bulbs and all other rear light functions, such as turn signal, tail lights work. I also checked all the fuses. But no brake lights.
The system is pretty simple, which works off the hydraulic pressure in the master cylinder, and yes, my brakes are working. I assumed it was the brake light switch itself. I replaced it and still no brake lights.
What am I missing?

Stuck with no brake lights

It's always possible to get a defective new part. With someone holding the brake down, check with a meter to see if the switch works. There should be 12 volts constant on one side of the switch. If that checks out, follow the wiring to the back of the car. Check for continuity between the switch and wiring at the back of the car. Some cars have a tail light harness connector in the trunk area. also check the lighting ground(s).
