if youre doing the brake lines, the proportioning valves (as they are called) are not the same thread as the OEM ones, so if your lines are rusty I suggest replacing them and forgetting about the original fitting and just create new ones.

If you dont have functional ABS, you can potentially get away with not using them, but its not advised. If you have ABS you must use them for safe operation
