Hi all,
I recently replaced all 4 rotors and pads on my '14 Regal GS and felt a vibration in the front during braking, especially from highway speeds. Initially thought it was bad bushings (car has 120,000 miles), and while the bushings were worn, mechanics said they do not need to be replaced. Turned out that my brand new rotors had warped. After getting them turned (tech said they took about 0.3mm off), the vibrations were gone. Well, after about a month and a couple thousand more miles, the front of the car is shuttering again during highway braking just like before. The vibrations only happen at braking above 25 MPH and are exponentially worse at highway speeds.
These are the parts I had used for the front brakes:
Rotors: Centric 12162140 345mm Rotors
Pads: Brembo P59079 Low Metallic Pads
First thought is to get the rotors turned again; however, what is to stop them from warping again? I don't want to get them turned every other month, and I am sure I will run out of metal quickly. When I got them turned the first time, I did not see any uneven wear in the pad material.
Should I just cut my losses and replace the rotors with something else (High Performance, Slotted, Heavy Duty)? I could replace the pads. While I like the stopping power, they create an obscene amount of dust (such is metallic pads - they did not have Brembo ceramics when I ordered - now they do 😒). I am not sure if this is a product of fancy performance pads and "cheaper" rotors. I have Centrics on my other cars (including the rears on the GS), and have had no issues. Perhaps the Brembo pads just generate too much concentrated heat (seems false) or I just got a bad set.
Just wanted to get some thoughts. Thanks!
