Broken tilt wheel lever on '96 Regal

Just got my 1996 Regal 3800 Custom. The metal lever for the tilt wheel adjustment is broken off right at the steering column.

The new lever is only $25, but I'm trying to determine if it can be installed without taking the column apart, and what all is involved. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing just happened to me on my 96 Regal did you ever find out a solution?
