I have a 2011 2.4. I ordered the phasers from ebay and they were documented to fit my car. One black, one white. I ran into a problem with valve to piston contact but I was hand turning so no damage. Upon review, the relationship between the diamond on the front and the locating pin on the back are different on the white one.

After more research and looking at 20 ads on ebay, the ads say 12621505 but in reality, only one phaser is that part and the other one is some other part. I can'
t find anyone selling two identical phasers that fit my car. My car ran great for over a decade with having the two identical phasers in there so I know I want to replicate what's in it. Why are they selling two different ones then? by logic, my car is wrong or, everyone on ebay selling the kit for my car are wrong. Anyone run into this?

Have you considered buying from Rockauto rather than eBay?

yep, I went there first. prices were about double but they sold either intake or exhaust. As usual, the fitment was very detailed. I'm still wondering why I have 2 identical phasers and everyone selling them as a kit, or in a larger kit have a different one.

GM updated the timing sets several times. There is more than one chain marking scheme and I thought the sprockets were changed too but can't remember 100%. The oiler and tensioner was improved too. You must match the timing kit to your VIN for this reason.

Also, when setting TDC, check if you are on the exhaust or intake stroke; that matters.

This might get you started on the different timing parts revisions:

This is a general 2.4 timing tips thread

You can get a DIY subscription to All Data for service tips. We have the Haynes or Chiltons book for our 2.4 LaCrosse but it is more generic and less detailed. Here is one guide book that can be helpful in a pinch:

EDIT - reposted for speedy response.

my car has both phasers using part number 12621505. All the kits I see only reference 2 different phaser part numbers. I'm just going to replace with what part numbers were in there and verify all important details by comparison to mine. Mine worked great for 12 years until the orifice that took the place of a pcv got me. At the end of the day there are only 2 things that matter 1) relationship between the lobes on piston #1 and 2) the pin which locks the cam to sprocket. As long as I verify those angles, my timing will be as it always was which was perfect. The timing being at TDC of the compression stroke is always first order of business. Thanks for the info. I'll just have to order from Rock Auto. It was just weird to see all the ads saying 12621505 but every one had a different part in it and they all said it will fit my car.
