2012 Buick Enclave
Hello everyone. A couple of weeks ago I received a check engine light on my 2012 Buick Enclave, and I took it to Autozone for scanning and it returned codes turned P0097, P11C2, and P2199 and other related IAT codes. Since all of the codes were related to sensors inside of the mass airflow sensor, I replaced the mass airflow sensor, which was easy. Well after a couple of weeks with the new sensor the codes P0097, P11C2, and P2199 still pop up (even after clearing the codes). I read that P2199 points to likely a wiring issue, but I don't have any frayed wires on the open connections to the sensor and the electronic control module. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something else that must be done for the mass airflow sensor to work properly, or is there a more serious problem? I'm tempted to get an another sensor (in case I got a bad sensor) and try it before taking my car to the dealer.

I would recommend getting some mass airflow sensor cleaner and clean the inside of the air duct hose/tube where the MAF sensor is at from the air filter box to the engine if you're able to remove it without damaging anything. If you leave the MAF sensor in the air duct tube make sure you don't bump it around and if you do spray it with the cleaner, make very sure that it is completely dry before putting the hose back on. I would also open up your air filter box and see if the filter needs replaced and the box cleaned out for debris. Sounds to me here anyway that the new sensor fixed the issue but the rest of the engine air system could be dirty and throwing codes from the MAF sensor.

Thanks. What I didn't mention in my original post (for the sake of brevity) is that I cleaned the MAF sensor (with specific MAF cleaner), I cleaned the air intake hose (it had oil in it which was another issue that I fixed), I removed and cleaned the throttle body (with specific throttle body cleaner), and I replaced the air filter (cleaning out the filter bin in the process). After the codes still returned I purchased and installed two brand new GM MAF sensors, but for each sensor the same codes reappeared. I now believe that it's a wiring issue (code 2199) that needs to be fixed.

Sometimes cheaper scan tools like Autozone uses only clears pending codes. You still may have the code stored in history and will come back. Try and find someone who has a Tech 2 style scanner that can clear all codes plus past history.

Thanks...I never thought of that. I'll find someone with a Tech 2 style scanner.
