One of the questions i have about this car is... how do the corner lights work?

I realized it yesterday when i saw the car with the first time with the lights on.

The blinkers/parking lights are in the headlight next to the low/high beam.

Then this light (always off in my car) and the sidemarker on the border.

So i was wondering, they call them corner lights because, i suppose, they are meant to give some extra lights on the sides of the car... maybe while turning... but mine stay off. I made some tries but nothing works, so before checking if the bulbs are good or not could someone with a good heart tell me what those lights are for and when (and how) they are supposed to turn on?

Thank you very much

On cars so equipped, the cornering lamps come on when you engage the turn indicator left or right. The idea is that at night, this helps light up the area/roadway that you are turning into. The ignition should be in “Run” or “on” to test if you have this option. This option is usually on cars equipped with the Twilight Sentinel as I believe it was part of that package option.

The side markers come off with just one screw from the front, and the back is held in with a tension spring clip so you could easily enough take one off to see if a bulb socket is attached.

Hope this helps.

I don't know if you tried them with the lights on but on my '92 the parking or headlights have to be on for the cornering lamps to work.

Thank you, that helps a LOT!!! Thank you.

Actually the "twilight sentinel" was another question i was about to make, glad it has nothing to do with vampires.

I have this twilight sentinel knob in my car under the light switch and it was all the way left (like OFF?), i turned it all the way right (MAX) and i tried to turn the blinker but it doesn't come on.
Anyway from the engine bay i can clearly see the socket and the original wiring so i think this car came out with this option.
I'll try to check the integrity of the bulbs. Do they use the 1156 bulbs or the double filament 1157?

Thank you a lot for the info!!! Such a cool thing!!!

Yes i figured somehow the lights were supposed to be on. I tried with both parking lights and headlights (low beam) on... they were still off. I'm almost sure the bulbs are gone. I'll check today and let you all know.

Thanks for help

On my 93 wagon those light only come on when the headlights are on and I use the turn signals, then they go off, I think it's normal.

Ok, i checked the lights, the one on the driver side was burned out, the other one had the little ground lip of the socket broken. Both of them were using 2057 bulbs, i replaced the bad one with a 1157 since they use the same wattage on the high filament. They both work now, even with just the parking lights on.

THANK YOU ALL for your help. I love that!!!

Anybody know where one could get a new spring tension clip, for the corner light, and or what would the part number for this item. Thanks

I got a 96 Estate wagon and the drivers side corner plug is there but you can not plug a light bulb into it. Would they have the replacement at O'reilly's?

Yup. They turn on when you turn on the signal light. They are designed to light up the area beside the car, but up front, where the headlights cant reach
