Hello,

Attempting to use this forum as a way to work on my car and need some assistance at the moment, I have been researching why my car won't start and still nothing...

Replaced so far :
Alternator
Starter
Plugs
Wires

Currently, my car will not start. It attempts to crank and I can hear the motor attempt to switch over but it just continuously cranks until a beeping occurs at which point I stop trying to start the car.

I have read into this a bit and been told several things such as :

ICM, TPS, and Distributor. As well as, Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter and so on.

Just wondering if anyone on this forum can give me an idea of where to start with this car as I have already put about 300$ into trying to get this car to start and running out of options.

Diagnostics 101. Do you have spark to the plugs and proper fuel pressure at the rail (35-psi+)? BTW, the 1992 has an DIS ignition system, which does not include a distributor, so you can ignore that advice!

There are also a number of excellent How-To's available at easyautodiagnostics.com. Some of them deal with "No Start" condition.

As HotZ mentioned, to start you should find out whether the problem is on the ignition (spark) or fuel delivery side. One of the How-To above will walk you through: No Start Testing and Diagnostic Basics.

Spraying starting fluid into the intake is an easy way to start the process. If it runs with the spray you're not getting gas if doesn't even sputter you're not getting spark, and if it backfires through the intake or exhaust the timing is off.

Yea, this was a learning experience as I've never actually done any work on my own car before.

Anyways, we ran a diagnostics and it came back with no engine codes.

Then we thought it could be the fuel pump and got under the car, the fuel tank was lose, so I banged it around a bit and finally got the car to crank over but it wouldnt stay running.

Realized that there had to be a power issue and cleaned the wires, checked plugs, tested battery so on and so forth... finally got under the dash to look at the ignition and found a loose wire. Plugged it back in and the car still wouldnt rev over.

Finally, got under the hood again... the wire was connected to the coil packs and they may be going bad as we were finally able to get the car to start by smacking the coil and jiggling wires.

Do you think this is a bad coil pack and diag isnt reading it? Car runs good and has some clanking because of loose exhaust but other than that its riding smooth again, just seems to be loosing power every now and then.

Wondering if it is the power steering pump and coil pack.

The terminal for the coil-pack/ICM on this particular model was known to have problems with loose & corroded connections! The terminal and all wires & connections need to be examined.. You may have other problems with a ground, or mounting of the ICM, which also needs to be investigated. I would suspect you have a problem with the ICM/coil terminals, or ground.
