So I recently purchased a 2012 regal gs and I’m having an issue with the driver side headlight.
Short version: Driver’s side HID only works when the ignition is off.
When I got the car the driver headlight had a couple inches of water on the inside and a ton of condensation. The bi-xenon solenoid was still working but the bulb wouldn’t light up. Driver side DRL also isn’t working.
I dried out the housing, ordered a new bulb and ballast. No big deal. Got everything installed and still no light.
Next, I removed the driver headlight housing from the car and plugged it in on the passenger side. Everything but the DRL worked fine.
Checked the pins, plug, and wires that I could get to easily, then started checking fuses. The driver HID fuse (49 or 50) was missing, replaced it with the fuse from the horn (same amps), headlight started working.
Put everything back together. Started the car to check the rest of the bulbs, no driver side HID.
Rechecked fuses, still good.
Shut off the ignition, turned on the lights with the switch and driver side HID works fine.
Any ideas why the driver HID doesn’t work when the ignition is on but works fine when everything is off?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
