Im nearing 60,000 miles on my AWD Regal and have some questions about changing the oil in the rear differential.

Is there a transfer case on these cars? Theres nothing between the transmission and rear differential unit and I'm wondering if its all in one?

Also I've attached an image of the differential unit. I'm assuming the plug out the bottom is the drain plug and the plug farther up is the fill plug. Does anyone know the fill capacity? also I think according to a few other posts its 75w-90?

Thanks

That would be correct for the diff. I use Mobile 1 75w-90 with the friction modifier already in it. However, that's the easy part and you're not finished. There's also a Haldex clutch assembly that's part of all that and it takes a filter with different fluid. It's also a big pain in the ass to get to because the driveshaft is in the way. The service manual will tell you to remove the driveshaft but I just worked around it with an assortment of smaller tools. THEN there's the transfer case fluid you'll need to change, that's up with the transmission. So yes, there are three separate service areas on the AWD system. And while you're under there, change your automatic transmission fluid as well.

Look up Saab Dr on YouTube and search for Haldex, you'll find a video that goes into detail about what fluids to use and where to put them. You can order a kit that contains everything you need from esaabparts.com.

It's easiest to drop the rear transaxle assembly by removing the two front bolts, loosening the two rear "horizontal" bolts, removing the driveshaft center bearing support to be able to access the Haldex sidecover.

Thanks a lot for the help. That video is perfect. Changed the transmission fluid around 45k if I remember right

In the picture, according to the video this is the transfer case, it's a little bit different, is this the transfer case and fill plug?

Im curious where the drain plug is for the transmission fluid so I don't dump that. The dealership changed the transmission fluid when they replaced the gasket on the oil pan. Warranty work.

Buick Regal (2018) 4x4 doesn't have a Haldex clutch, it has a Twinster by GKN.
