Well, I had my first minor damage done to my 2010 LaCrosse. I hit a raccoon and it cracked my front bumper and busted the front passenger side fog light cover. The actual fog light still works, but the cover is totally gone. I have searched on seem to be able to find a replacement for about $40 but when I called the dealership, they told me that you can't just replace the fog light cover and you have to replace the whole fog light assembly. The reason as I was told from the dealer is that the cover is not snapped into the bumper as it appears to be and that it is glued to the fog light assembly. As you would guess the whole assembly is $150 w/o the labor and it just doesn't jive with what I am looking at on my car.

Suggestions?

It should just be the fog lamp bezel, which from various online sites that catalog and sell replacement GM parts price it around $40-60. It is possible they were confused that the entire foglight itself was damaged. It doesn't seemed glued on, but rather clipped in with some rivets. Did you show them the photo? If the dealership is being uncooperative, you can always purchase it online. Members over at the Corvette forums say that GM Parts House is reputable. I was planning to purchase DIC controls in my 09 from them since the lights burned out, but I grew over it and could live with the missing lights from the buttons.

On a side note, if my bumper was cracked I would be devastated and wouldn't call that a minor damage. To each their own, but good luck on the search!

No they are not GLUED together! The fog lamp assy snaps into 4 molded prongs on the back side of the bumper cover & the front bezel (black plactic) snaps into the front slots of the front bumper cover. Then the Chrome trim piece snaps onto the black plastic bezel. With that said bare in mind that those two parts will be probaby close to a hundered bucks per side. If you need the part numbers for those two parts let me know and I'll get them for you.

Hey Guys,

Thank you for responding and 8-track you are correct in saying that the fog light bezel and chrome trim are two separate pieces. I called the dealership back and used the more accurate terms and was able to get the correct parts, without having to purchase the whole light assembly. I still had to buy the bezel, $65 and the chrome trim, $90 respectively. So I am still out $150, but the car is on the road back to recovery.

Thanks again and now to work on the cracked bumper,
Kelly

Kelly, not sure what your intent is for a repair, but I would guess it's not insurance related or the fog would have been addresssed that way as well. So one way or the other you'll need to repaint the cover to make it look right as you indicate. You should be able to get a new cover for around $300, but I'm guessing again that's not the plan. So again get youself some SEM 39708 flexible sem-weld. This is a two part urethane for just such a repair. Groove the cracked area so there is a void space for the repair material to lay in. Next apply your material, overlap the sem-weld a good 1" on each side of the crack & leave about a 1/2" bulge on the back side for strength. Sand it, finish it for priming & then paint.
