Fuel pump is not working in 08 lucerne v6. I had the problem with the relay heating up. I fixed that issue. Now a week later, the fuel pump is not working. I pulled the pump out of the tank and checked the voltage at the plug. I'm getting 12v until I plug it into the pump, then it drops to 0v. I applied 12v directly to the pump and it runs. My question is, why is the voltage dropping and what is causing that to happen. Is there any device between the relay and the pump.

The fusebox next to the battery in the back seat was heavily corroded underneath for some reason. He removed it and had to clean it and re-terminate a bunch of wires.

I found this one won of the other posts.

I read that also. I'm going to try and trace the wires down in the morning. It would be great to have a wiring diagram. I took the fuse block apart and did not see any problem with it. Mine did not get burnt as bad as some others.

PM me your email address and I will send you one for the whole car. It is for an 06 but it is the same for an 08

When the voltage drops like that it's usually a connection that can't carry current. It's generally a damaged connection that is barely made.

That's what I found it to be. Bad connection in fuse block where the relay is connected. Anyone know how this fuse block is constructed? I can't afford $400 to replace it.

I took the fuse block apart and fixed it. Cleaned up the contact point and changed the little metal prong with another one that does not draw much current, like a 2 or 5 amp fuse.
I you want to try this yourself, instead of drilling out the rivets, take a grinder and grind the center of each one about 1/4" down then smash the end of the rivet together so it can be removed and re-installed. The burnt metal on the prong needs to be cleaned up on the inside, there is also an indention that needs to be pressed in a little so it will make good contact when the fuse is put in. You should try this with a fuse before putting the box together so you know its a good fit.
It took about 1 hour to complete this and saved lots of $$$$$.

I will post the results of the fix.
