This is a easy one. A few days ago I removed the turn signal/cruse combo switch, multi purpose switch. Installed the new one today. I need help finding the plug for the female 4 pin cruise control connector. I know, just extend the wire harness and it’ll show where to plug in the male side of the cruise control plug. So far it’s not working for me. I’ve searched till I’m blue in the face and can’t find the female connector for the 4 wire plug. My 74 years may force me to turn in my shade tree mechanic card.

This video should help. Make sure you compliment him on his interior.

Thanks for the reply. That's not a bad video on the actual switch removal. However the Park Avenue switch has a different plug set than the one he shows on his customers car. Ours isn't held in with a screw, it's retained in the high upper left area under the dash with a small stainless clip. Easiest way to find it is to just work the main (largest) bundle of wires out of the multifunction switch. It's really not that hard to remove and replace. Just takes a bit of patience and finesse. Also, this is the second time I've done this little job, you don't have to remove the steering wheel. It's possible to work the top half of the two piece cover out with a couple of screwdrivers that you use to walk the top piece out of its position on the steering wheel side.

BTSI = brake-transmission shift interlock

Same as SOTBTSOOP = step on the brake to shift out of park, but 4 letters is better than 9 letters, eh? 😉

First of all the subject plug has 4 wires, dark green and light green on one side and dk green with blk stripe and light green with blk stripe on the other side. But now....Thanks on the replies but I've given up, throwed in the towel and hollered Uncle. Today I dropped the tray located at the very left side under the dash that contains all the main connectors as they enter main wiring harness where it goes through the firewall into the engine compartment. I expected to find a pigtail with the female connector that I assumed to be hidden there after I stuffed the main large blue connector attached to the new multifunction switch in place without dropping the tray. I thought I could have accidentley have pushed it into a hiding spot among the wires on top of the tray. However, No open 4 wire plug there. I have given up. I don’t believe the ‘98 PA had a place for the subject 4 wire plug. Still no cruise so I’ll look elsewhere.

THANKS ALL

Ronnie

1766469279716.webpconnector 2 inthis picture is under the left side of the instrument panel. its C202 (The ONLY connector frrom the multifunction stalk to the cruise module)1766469817978.webpso that other connector is NOT what you think it is

The info above is exactly what I was hoping for. Thank You!!! I do appreciate the effort to pull it up and share. Changing the multifunction switch was brought on by two things. The cruise has stopped working, however I really didn't think the MF switch was the issue, but then the wife activated the 4-way flashers and rather than pushing the button down to turn em off, she tried to push it forward, breaking it, the switch button popped out and the spring shot out as well. So that needed repair and I sorta hoped the cruise would benefit as well.

Cruse control likely issue; when I replaced the transmission shift solenoids a few months ago, I failed to disconnect the cruise harness from the underhood cruise control module while dropping the subframe. Had everything but that properly unhooked. When I spotted my mistake the wires were fiddle string tight and the plug was partially unplugged from the firewall mounted module. I unplugged it and finished the transmission work. The cruise worked fine for a few days afterwards. Then it was intermittent for a few days and finally stopped altogether.

My very old multimeter has probes that are too way to big/fat to probe the small wires at the cruise control unit to check for a open circuit at the plug. I think I'll check online for a very fine tipped set of probes and see what I can learn with that effort. I do expect I'll find a broken wire under the insulation at the plug.

On the other hand, the hazards are working again. 🙂

Harbor freight has a backprobing set

Also, interesting. A scan tool can see if the pcm is inhibiting cruise

Also check your CHMSL wiring

Thanks BGFM. We traveled from central Arkansas to #1 son's in middle Tennessee for Christmas. I had a set of needle point probes delivered to his house and brought my multimeter along. I did find a broken wire which when repaired had continuity but still no cruise. A next door pin was showed continuity with the broken wire pin, I suspect a short in the plug which is basically non repairable. Luckily I've another in the '01 parts car behind the shop. I'll swap it in when I return to Tennessee in a few weeks and pickup the '98.

I maintain two PA's. One at our place and one in Tennessee. My bride backed into the the son's '05 a few weeks ago so I've left the '98 at his place (since it's currently in good shape) and will work on the dent repair/repaint on the '05 at home. I discovered his car has another issue when it backfired through the intake today. That's another thread though.

Here’s a video showing how to diag the cruise module system
