So I was changing the pads on my 2012 Regal GSM and saw this beauty. Anyone know what I need to do? Collision repair, dealer, welder?

Sorry, can't help. No picture.

There we go....finally got the picture up.

Is it a weld or caulk? You'll need to determine that before you can seal it, and if it's a weld it looks like it's compromised and will need to be re-welded. Push on it with a screw driver, if it gives a bit then it's caulk if it resists it's metal/weld. Easy enough...

I'd still be curious why there would be caulk at that particular spot though.

It's 'caulk', and it's all over the place on these cars. I'm not sure if it's part of the rust-proofing specification, or noise abatement. It probably cracked when someone lifted the car (floor jack or lift) from right around there. In fact, it looks a little like there is evidence just ahead of the crack that there was a jack/jackstand there at one point (looks like a scratch, and maybe a dent... hard to tell from the picture).

I guess I'd put new caulk over that spot so nothing gets in there (in case it is there for rust proofing), but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I agree stoopid and I did that, it's calk. My fingernail left a little divot. I'm guessing to dampen vibration.

Thanks Walt. I saw that after the picture as well, looks like a little dented as well. Damn, techs.

I think I will get a bit of marine caulk and close that sucker up.
