Hey I was just tooling around on google looking for oil filter comparisons. As I just switched from K&N to the Napa Gold 1040 filter (equal to Wix 51040) and besides admit it those threads alway end up being a flame fest worthy of some laughs. I found this gem......

http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-52756.html

So it looks like Napa Gold 1036 will give us a bit of capacity and more filtering media!

If you want to know about if it'll fit thread-wise check out Wix's website filter look-up...

http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/index.asp

According to them the Wix filter that fits our 3800's also fits the 3400's. So I'm assuming they are backwards compatible.

The clearance will not be an issue....

As the owner of a '93 LeSabre and also a '93 Jimmy and '94 Blazer that's extremely useful information to know. I've got two PF-52s on my shelf out in the garage. From now on I won't need the PF-47 for the Buick; I can just put on one of the Blazer's filters and get a little extra capacity.

That's one of the things I love most about General Motors. A lot of parts are interchangeable.

The 1036 is a little longer will it scrape the ground or am i being to anal

I had the longer one on there for awhile. It hangs down there too far for my liking.

nice to know. Is the bypass valve set at the same psi?

Looking at the WIX filters, the 51040 (PF47) and the 51036 (PF52) both are spec'd at: 7-9 gpm, full flow, 21 micron, with anti-drainback valve. No bypass valve pressure setting is specified. The height dif. is 1.414".

Of interest might be the Beta spec's:
2/20=15/31 for the 51040 (short) and
2/20=12/26 for the 51036 (long)

If I interpret these right:
The shorter one removes 50% of the 15 micron and larger and 95% of the 31 micron and larger stuff.

The longer one removes 50% of the 12 micron and larger and 95% of the 26 micron and larger stuff.

So, the longer filter is more efficient...I guess that is just what we would have expected. 😀

On second thought, I think the bypass valve is built into the engine on these cars, rather than being in the filter.

WOO-HOO!!!! :headbang::headbang::headbang:

Now if we're taking metaphorically, I would love to have a bigger
oil filter and I would love for it to hang down a long ways. 🙂

I noticed almost six and a quarter quarts with that longer filter does that seem right ???

Yup it hold six and a quarter six should be fine that means its an extra quart I LIKE IT ALOT!

Hi,
After reading this thread a few weeks ago I made a change to the bigger (PF52 style) filter.

I don't think the oil capacity changes much.
I reloaded the car with the advance auto oil change jug which is 5.1 qts. It seemed to fill it nicely maybe even slightly over the fill mark.
I checked the Owners manual and it said 5 quarts (with oil filter change).

I don't think there is much chance of hitting something wint the longer filter.

Well i know after installing new engine it holds 6 and a quarter quarts that may be the difference between a new dry engine and a drain and fill on a used engine ?
