You unfasten it inside -- either by removing the trunk liner, or if yours has the access panel, popping that loose. Yes; the entire housing of red and white plastic comes off. You unfasten it inside -- either by removing the trunk liner, or if yours has the access panel, popping that loose. Then lift the housing free of the car.
