I found a 1991 Buick Skylark for sale

for $400....? the guy says it runs good and there's nothing wrong with it. Being a girl, car salesmen don't take me seriously. Should I try to go up there, it's not far from me, and look for myself to see if anything's wrong. Or should I trust the guy? Should I have my boyfriend call and ask? What is your opinion?

get you a book that list the values of cars and look that car up if the value should be way up more than they are trying to sell it for then i believe i would pass on it, but i think the value of the car is going to be low, then you take off for mileage, shape of the interior, and overall condition, this can bring the price down and the dealers wont sink money into a car like this one because its not worth very much , they will just sell it off cheap. but you should have it checked out by a mechanic if possible before buying it. be careful

Unfortunately, whoever is selling it, when it is a woman buying a vehicle they think we're ditzes. I would do some research first..like check out what Kelly Blue Book has it listed for, etc. Once you have the info you need, you shouldn't really have any problems (as long as you don't become flustered). Salespeople are notorious. There are female salespeople nowadays, but they are concerned with making the sale & getting their commission. You could very well end up in something you didn't really want. Take a boyfriend, dad, uncle or even a brother with you for the moral support if nothing else. =) Another thing, I was advised of this once many years ago, too....if you are thinking of buying this car, have it inspected first. I know it's costly, but if you were to take it and have a diagnostic run on it, you would know for sure if you were truly getting a good deal or not. Kelley Blue Book has definitions for you, like what they consider to be "good".

Not sure what state you live in or if this is a 2-door or 4-door. Used my zip code to get the info and picked on a 4-door sedan and the blue book is about $575.

I'd go take a look at it before I bought it in any case, and if you dont have a real mechanical background, take it to a local shop and have them do a quick inspection. For $400, you shouldnt expect much out of the car. Rough interior, rough exterior would my my mindset, but the engines in those cars will last forever if you take care of them. Not even to mention 25-30 mpg, and pretty decent power. I've been around a lot of them and worked on even more of them, but nothing major usually goes wrong. I'd go for it for that price anyways. mm, I suggest taking it to a shop (ask to test drive), and get their opinion..I have a 96 skylark, and it is pissin me off horribly. One thing after another is going wrong with it and I'm so ready to sell it and get a brand new car. i'd say find out what the miles are but that didn't work with mine though, it's just at 80xxx miles and i've had to replace SOOO many things....take your time when purchasing a vehicle...I had a car that was $100 and it lasted me a good 3 years with not too many problems..this car was $5000ish and it's giving me nothing but trouble *sigh* Good luck with ya ^__^

have a mechanic and a bodyshop look at the car.

early model Buicks do not retain a whole lot of value, so the price is good, but these are cars that Total really easy and can be bought at insurance auctions or wrecking yards and rebuilt for little money and shoddy repairs
