supposed to be at. help? when I bought the car there was no manual and the sticker on the door that usually tells this is faded so I can't read it. and the tire pressure warning is showing up on the info center anyone know what the tires need to be at?

Inside the drivers side door there should be a sticker that tells you at what pressure the Manufacturer says the tires should be. However, I've been told by the people who I buy my tires from (Big-O) that they generally run all tires, front and back, at 35 psi because that's the best compromise between comfort and wear.

That being said, the max pressure, that's listed on the sidewall, of the tires I have on mine is 42psi. I generally run them about 38 to get a bit better mileage and wear. You should, first, check the sidewall and make sure you don't exceed that limit.

Sticker may be located on trunk lid. 34 is best all around pressure, too high and you lose traction, too low and you can overheat tire.

SoStl314,

I also have a '02 LeSabre and the label is missing off the door. But I am quite sure it said 35# front and rear (the door was recently replaced).

Couple things: 1) If the low pressure light comes on, it normally means at least one tire is at a lower pressure than the others (determined by the ABS system according to wheel speed) 2) The whole topic of correct tire pressure is a study in itself. From what I can determine, the pressure recommended on the door is probably too low for normal driving. I run at least 40# and sometimes 44# and notice no difference in handling. Gas mileage is improved and as long as the tread wear stays even across the tread, the tires should last longer.

So, even the pressures up to at least 35#, reset the low pressure indicator, and do some research on running a little higher presures. Here is a good site to start out: http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=161928&page=3

44 seems high and maybe dangerous.

I put 35, maybe up to 37.

The door sticker says 30 pounds cold. Remember to recheck as we go into the colder months; the pressure drops 1 pound for 10 Deg. Fah.

I run mine at 33-35. I have Michelin 16 inch x 225 x 60s.

The maximum pressure stated on the sidewall has nothing to do with recommended pressures for driving on the tires in normal applications. Pay no attention to it.

My understanding, although I am not a mechanic, is that the computer monitors wheel revolutions rather than pressure (probably via the ABS system) and any drop in pressure manifests itself as a different rate of revolution in the affected tire than in the others. When that happens, the low tire pressure alert is activated. All four tires could be at the same unsafe low pressure and still not trigger an alert. At my tire guy's recommendation, I run all 4-ply P tires at 35# and 6-ply LT tires at 40# as a rule.
