Define ignition switch. the thing you rotate with your key?

Yes, on the column
if you have a working key that can rotate it , its mild disassembly of the column and putting the gear selector in the right spot and tilting the steering column and pulling it out, then exhcanging it

But if youre missing a key, or you have mechanica ldamage problems, it may be more involved
what problem are you working on?
if you need keys, any dealer can get you keys cut to your vin that will match the original tumbler and programming takes about 10-30 minutes if you have no key, but about a minute if you have an old key

Things to consider.

My plan was to leave the switch out. I was gonna use it for a country road rambler for me and the grandkids. Fishing, hunting, and just bopping around the farm.

You need something to mechanically actuate the switch that signals the BCm the ignition state. I’d recommend replacing with a new tumbler. There is a way to make the ignition tumbler turn without a key, but you would need a RFID transmitting the key head code to start the car.
