The engine in my 2010 Buick Enclave died last week at 97k miles. This is exceptionally frustrating to me considering I just put $2k into the timing chain and the dealership told me they were finding steel pieces inside the engine. Now they're telling me $6k for a new engine.

I called Buick to ask for assistance and they said no based on the car being 8 years old even though it's under the 100k miles warranty.

I'm conflicted on what to do. I have little interest in investing any more into this car as I have already spent $5K in the last 4 years in service. The transmission died at 60k miles and honestly I think GM doesn't stand behind their junk product.

Would you:

1 - invest 6k in a new engine and trade it in
2 - invest 6k in a new engine and keep driving it
3 - not invest any more and use the 6k toward the purchase of a different car with 30k-40k miles

Thanks for the input. I don't know what I'm going to do right now.

The vehicle is eight years old. It's time to move on to something newer and better. No brainer, imo. May I suggest a 2018 Enclave? Would be a world of difference for you.

I'm in the same boat, 135KM on my 2010 and now I'm told that it needs a second timing chain! This on top of previous replacements of; water pump, steering box, AC compressor, and dead radio. I was a true blue GM supporter, never again. I'm in the process of trading it on an Acura or Honda and accepting next to nothing for the trade.
My advice, just dump it and get something built with pride. My son's Acura has 265KM and drives like new and doesn't burn a drop of oil (which is also an issue with our Enclave).

Depends if you like the car man !! if you get another car you have no idea any of the issues with that one unless you get complete records, a full inspection, and research all recalls and TSB's in advance ..

I was in same boat .. mine a little older. But i kept the thing alive !!

I'm sorry to hear you're having this problem. Sadly our 2010 Enclave has given us many expensive problems including having to replace a $5000 timing chain when it was only 5 years old. Now it's just problem after problem. We loved the look and ride of this car but it's a money pit. We'd love to get rid of it but all we can get is $3000 for parts and we owe $7900 on the loan🙁 Any ideas?
