I originally post this somewhere else but this it might be better here:
I bought 2017 Buick Encore (LUV engine) in December. I forgot test the AC on the test drive. When I went to turn it on in May, it blew warm air.
As a result, in May, I replaced the ac compressor, condensor, and drier/receiver and recharged it.
Everything worked great until the last couple of weeks. Now it works great when I first start the car but if I'm doing primarily city driving, it seems to get warm after about 20 minutes or so. If I have to get on the expressway right away and drive long distances, the ac seems to work the entire time until I get off the highway and go back to city driving and, again, after about 10-15 minutes it gets warm. That said, once the air gets warm it won't go back to being cold until the car is shut off for an hour or so.
When I got under the hood, I noticed that the coolant level (not refigerant, but orange coolant) was low. I noticed that there was a coolant leak on the hose connection from the coolant reservoir to the thermostat housing / water outlet, which apparently is common place for a coolant d leak in these cars. I ordered parts and will fix that soon.
I know it's not leaking refrigerant and I tried recharging and the lines will hold vacuum but the same problem continues.
I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on what's causing the ac issues or some troubleshooting tips.
Is the coolant leak related or just a coincidence? While i have been periodically adding coolant to make sure it does not drop too low, I do notice that the ac problem seems to be worse if the coolant level drops a little below the full line.
Thanks.
