2021 Envision
I have a 2021 Envision. I am getting an intermittent warning to replace the battery in my key fob. I've replaced the battery twice now, with new batteries, but I'm still getting the message. I suppose it's possible that the pack of batteries I bought were bad, but that seems unlikely. Has anyone else had this problem?

Check batteries with a voltmeter. If they are good make a dealer appointment.

Warning just might go away, as maybe the car doesn't check for that issue immediately and will "catch up" shortly. Do all functions of the remote work?

Everything works. I only get the warning every few days. It's not every day

Then go with MelsRegal's advice and see the dealer. If car is still under warranty, which it should be, let THEM diagnose and resolve.

I have a 2018 Envision. I've got that warning occasionally and haven't been able to check the batteries with my volt meter (has a blown fuse). Because it's only happened maybe once every couple months I have assumed that it is due to my not putting the key fob in the ashtray all the time. Sometimes I keep the keys in my purse on the armrest between the front seats and my son moves it to the floor in the backseat. Whenever I've noticed the warning it seems to be when my purse is in the backseat on the floor with the keys in it. Will try to remember to update when I get a chance to jump the fuse in my voltmeter and check the batteries. Cheers

You are not supposed to have to place the key fob in the tray all the time. If they are the original 5 year old batteries, change them.

Do not "jump" the fuse, replace it with a new same amp fuse!!!! Someone must have dome something Wong, to blow the original fuse. 🙁

I specifically get a message on the DIC asking me to have my fob there if it is not.
I forgot to say that I've had the vehicle two years and have replaced the batteries once already anf then again a second time now last week. Batteries seem to get dead/weak fast compared to other vehicles I've had. Must be to do with the electronic ignition/security and having to be in contact back and forth to check that the fob is there.

I do not think your remote is a 2-way unit. That means there should not be contact back and forth. The fob sends a message and the car receives it, plain and simple. The car is looking for a message from your fob, but your fob is not looking for your car, in other words. Using a rubber eraser on a pencil, try to "clean" the battery contacts in the fob and then insert a new battery (that you have wiped off beforehand).

Are you using a brand name cr2032 battery?

I had the same issue. I bought Energizer 2450 3 volt Lithium batteries (pack of 2) for about $6 at Walmart on a trip to San Jose in the fall. Replaced the battery and all is well. PD0323 is the Energizer number and upc code is 039800137449. Hope that helps. Good Luck.

Same problem: 2022 Envision and in Sept 2024 got dash message for key fob batty. Replaced batty (CR2450) and all was well until November. Replaced again and all was well until December. Replaced again and in Jan 2025 got that msg and now my wife's fob is doing getting the dash msg. Local dealer never heard of this (so I did not visit), and I am stilll in quandry. Car has not refused to operate (yet), so I drive spare batty9 in the glovebox. Any fix?

I would have your car battery tested, as weak batteries can cause all kinds of issues. Should be "load tested". Once you know the status of the car battery, then you can proceed with troubleshooting. Always keep in mind that "new", as in "new battery", can be deceiving, as "new" means Never Ever Worked. Sometimes these things sit around for a long time so they gradually lose power. Have you tried using your OTHER fob?

Yeah, but if it's upside down, it will never work at all.

I know, have done it ^^^. Sometimes the cap loosens or battery contacts. Even circuit board can develop lose soldier welds or corrosion. Getting as micro to me these days.

The fob functions as the ignition key, required to be located in the vehicle to operate it so it has to send out a signal. I believe that I have found the issue, I checked a few other batteries from the pack I had got them from with my volt meter. It was a new pack but most of the other cells from it were not testing full voltage. They were not dead or extremely low but I am assuming that since they did not read full voltage right out of the pack that they also drained more expediently as a result of being defective. Opened a different pack and brand that I had on hand, tested and since then I haven't gotten the low battery warning requiring me to place the fob in the cup holder. The fob has worked from my purse, pocket, etc since.

10-4. First thing I checked. The package of batteries that I had was new but all the batteries in it were testing a bit short of what they should have been new from the package. It was a small amount they were short but I assume they were draining fast due to being defective. Tested another package I had on hand and they were good. After changing out for one from the good package so far no issues. Strangely right after I had this problem, my SIL had mentioned having to order new fobs for her Volvo so I went over and checked the voltage in her "new" package of batteries (different brand, unrelated to the package I had that were bad) and they were defective and testing a bit low too so it must be a fairly common problem. She kept changing out batteries from that "bad" pack and since she'd just bought them she thought her fobs were the problem.
