2002 Buick Lesabre
Hello all, I have an 02 Lesabre with the stock AM/FM cassette radio that is loosing its lighting. Does anyone know if the lighting is LED or regular bulbs, and if it is bulbs, does anyone know the number of the bulbs and how many are in the radio.

Thank you for any help.

The radio if its not all unlit has small soldered incandescent bulbs. You can send it off to someone to repair, or you can buy them and solder yourself. Its similar to the switches and such which also do this. Its annoying but it can be done by the DIYer with a good technique a solder iron and the bulbs but if not comfortable I would look for a refurbished or to send yours off to soemone for repair.

IIRC reading and watching the gurus working to fix the light problem in radios and heater controls IIRC,
many tried putting in small bulbs they found at the time which were too bright. Some tried LED replacements.
But the soldering requires small tips and very careful work.

Now it appears the right light bulbs are available generally.

I recall there was at least one business that replaced the light bulbs. You send your radio and the turnaround was
quick. I assume you could use FedEx or UPS fast ship services. I don't find the service advertised, but it may be on Ebay.
I used to have a link but that link, if it's still active, is on my old dead laptop saved favorites for one of two browsers and
I don't have easy access without doing computer tech stuff.

To me, it seemed easier to send it to someone who at the time was doing several radios in a time period rather
than trying to do it myself

You may want to consider a GM interface harness and a new radio because of the age your original radio. Seeing how it would require removal for repair it's something to consider look at Sonicelectronix and Crutchfield for options.

Mr O of South Main Auto has some great youtube videos of Lesabres (and many other cars). One linked below is not of the radio bulbs but lights in the hvac controller that shows what the soldering is like. His troubleshooting is amazing. If your are keeping the Buick I really like the idea of new radio with back up camera.
