So my mother had a Rendezvous when I was growing up, and altogether I remember it being a decent car. It blew an engine by overheating, of course, and she ran into the ignition and fuel leak issues listed in the recalls about those things. But aside from that, the only real issue she ever had was with the Body Control Module slowly dying in the last few years she had it, and that was when the fuel leak issue presented itself as well. Windows stopped working, locks worked selectively, hatch eventually sealed itself permanently, and she just didn't care enough to get the module replaced. But outside of those four major things, it was a smooth ownership experience from what I remember, and despite us living in central Michigan, I don't remember there being very much, if any, rust on it at all.
So, armed second hand with her 15-ish years of ownership experience, and the power of the internet, I figure it's a good car to replace my clapped out Caravan that's more rust than metal at this point. I'll probably go for a 2007, highest trim level, just to ensure I'm getting the "best" experience possible. Besides the aforementioned engine, ignition, and fuel tank issues, is there anything else to be aware of, and look out for in a pre-sale inspection? In all of the potential units I look at, I plan to have the ignition system examined, the area around the fuel tank examined, as well as your typical rust, suspension, etc inspection, and if all of that looks good, I'll have the engine checked at a later date for head warping and gasket integrity.
Just wondering if this would be sufficient, or if I should look out for more things as well. Also, what is the highest trim level, and what features come with it? Would be nice to have heated seats and mirrors, all disc brakes, etc, but I'm not opposed to doing a rear drum to disc conversion, or settling without some niceties.
