Edges of the LH mirror have started to discolor. I ordered the glass only. Does anyone here have experience with the innards of the mirror? The diagrams indicate that the glass is separate. It appears that it can be replaced.

It can be replaced but the old mirror needs to be removed from the housing first and any connections for heat, auto dimming or turn signal, the mirror basically snaps out . Then the old mirror will need to be separated from it's frame housing, various videos on this and new mirror glued in place.

Not a Lucerne but similar in concept.

Thanks for the info. Will watch the videos amd go from there.

Where you getting your mirror? Mine on the drivers side is pretty bad. Have been thinking of replacing too.

Its my understanding that the new mirror glues over the old one. Might check on that.
I ordered from GMPartsPrime.com. At about $60 it was a bit pricey. You can use your VIN to get the correct one (heated, turn signal in glass etc.) They apparently do not stock them but they order and turn-around is pretty quick. I was able to use the mirror until replacement.

Ok mirror arrived and it's the correct one. I went to replace it today and was able to remove the discolored one but could not get the new one to seat. I apparently jammed the motor/actuator assembly so it could not move. Unjammed it and will try again tomorrow to check it out for movement. Threatening rain this afternoon (working out side). Does anyone have the part number for the motor/actuator assembly if I have to order it? Thanks....

There is a screw in the middle of the motor assembly that holds the assembly in. Perhaps you can take that assembly out and take a better look at it before buying a new one. Looks like if you do have to replace that motor assembly you will have to tear that hole door apart 🙁

Not clear on what diagram is correct, but the center is apparently separate part if #2 is needed.

Finally job complete. The motor/actuator was not broken (phew!) so I didn't have to replace it. The movable part had become lodged at its edge and jammed so it could not move. This time I marked the orientation with nail polish and installed and checked to be sure it moved. I also put silicone grease on all of the mating points/clips so assembly would be easier (it was). I did find an old paper wasp home inside the mirror assembly which would account for the dirt showing up on the side of the door. Well enough... Thanks again for ALL the help. This forum is an invaluable resource.

Glad it's fixed and no additional parts needed.

Do you have any pictures that you could post showing how you took it apart or assembled? That would be great to see.

Sorry no photos but the videos show it properly. Carefully move the nirror up and grasp it to pull it from the clips at the botom. May take some (not a lot) force to free it. Disconnect clips from heater (if equipped) and any connectors. Suggest using a little (small) amount of silicone grease on ALL the mating surfaces. Goes back together SO much easier. Just then align the mirror and using just the center area, push it home. You need to hear a bunch of clicks. See if all the lights work and you're done (yay).
