Hello I'm still fairly new on this forum and I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem I put the key in, it's a factory key not a copy and I have problems getting it to turn the ignition to start the vehicle sometimes. I mess with the gear shifter turn the steering wheel a little bit back and forth and push the brake pedal. I don't know if, anyone else has had this problem and is there a cheap fix I have a 2006 Buick LaCrosse 3.8

How long have you had the vehicle, is this a new problem?

This is a new problem I guess all together the car has been in my family like 5 years I just started having this problem probably within the last month or less

its a common issue and its most likely related to column components and not the key cylinder but i wouldnt say to rule it out.

POS cars do POS things(Buicks when they went downhill)

It's a recall I just took my 06 lacrosse in about two months ago.

Thank you for your answer I've never done a recall on a vehicle before so I really don't know how the procedure goes. Did they fix it for free?

There are only 4 safety recalls for a 2006 la crosse.

if you meant you got it done for free by GM willingly, please tell us details. but you are just simply causing confusion unless its a voluntary recall.

I know what youre talking about, the huge GM recall years ago about the ignition switch issue where your keys can turn off while driving from the weight of themselves basically.

We are not talking about that. we are talking about another issue.
OP you can check your vin at the link if you want to double check

Yes they did it for free you just call you nearest dealer and setup a appointment.

So the ignition has been acting up for awhile and one day it wouldn't turn at all ?

If you were talking to me then it just started acting up within the past 2 months and every once awhile won't turn and then sometimes it does turn it's weird I don't know what's up with it

As ive said, the issue is either on the solenoids on the column or the whole tumblr or both, if you want to fix this I wouldnt suggest a dealer($$$$) but google can be your friend

Off-topic, I know, but wasn't their solution to that basically a new key-ring?

I occasionally get the postcards from the Buick dealership in the mail, "Unfixed recall" blah blah blah.

I had the problem with the headlight relay (also a recall as I (ahem) recall to the best of my knowledge), I simply bought a new from from Autozone and replaced it and ate the $25. The lights work fine, now.

I know recalls are recalls, but for stuff like that it strikes me as convenient way to get you into the dealership to be upsold maintenance, or even upsold a new car by their slimy salesmen.

I fix the car myself or take it to a trusted independent mechanic's shop. It's a 15 year old sedan, I'm not taking it anywhere near the dealership, assuming their "technicians" would even have the first clue what to do with it.

One small gripe from something you said earlier (not intended to be heavy). I wouldn't describe these 2006 Buicks as "POS." They are what they are. I drive fairly late model Ford Tauruses for work, from our fleet. Now those are a total POS, as our fleet manager well recognizes and often laments. He'd like his old Impalas back, if he could.

I will concede only one thing to a buick la crosse it was the most quiet interior ive had in a car.

every other metric tho its a slap in the face of 1997-2005 buick flag ship and midship (pa and lesabre)
but yes i can def see how compared to a today-mobile that would be quite an improvement.

My comment would be:

The basic mechanics are pretty good, but those are tried and trusted engines and transmissions that GM evolved over many years. There is that well-known unpleasantness with "sag" in the steering-rack, that seems to haunt W bodies.

The first gen LaCrosse really was a very pretty car. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It still goes a bit when you get your foot down, but that's true of any big old six cylinder, I guess.

I hang on to it because I like it, and for me it represents the end of the era for big, American sedans without all the modern electronic bells and whistles.

The paint? Crap. The fit of some of the panels? Also crap. The interior materials? Crapper, still.

My attempt at an objective take over 7 years and 65,000 miles.

if it wasnt for the 06/07 having this key thing and then also the rare coolant/oil mix problem (rear seal or something) the la crosse that I had and eventually sold to my aunt who still has it , it would have gotten a B+ from me in function of a car.

It wasnt bad it just wasnt
hard to explain but my swag canoe of my park avenue has a soul, a feeling, a vibe. the la crosse was lobotomized

Does the vehicle have column or floor mounted gear selector ? Both have a safety feature Electronic Park Lock (EPL)/Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator:
Electronic Park Lock (EPL)/Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator: If the vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission and a floor mounted console gear shift, it has an ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator purpose is to prevent the ignition key from being turned to the OFF position when the transmission is in any position other than PARK and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of an ignition lock cylinder control actuator, and a park position switch that is located in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.
Linear Shift Assembly: If the vehicle is equipped with a column mounted gear shift, it has a linear shift assembly on the steering column. The linear shift assembly has a cable that runs from the linear shift assembly to the ignition lock cylinder case. The purpose of this cable is to prevent the ignition key from being turned to the OFF position when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The linear shift assembly cable contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.

this is what i meant
