The key fob tray is the small storage area behind the cup holders. If you were to lay your head on the center console and look above that tray, under the cup holder lid (which must be open to see this) you'll see 2 openings. One's on the right and the other on the left, each one about 2" wide by 3/4" tall. You can feel these if you stick your fingers up in that area. In my 2019 TourX I felt a plastic part sitting loosely in the left opening. I assumed it was some kind of cell phone holder the prior owner had placed in there somehow, instead of in an air vent. I tried to pull it out with my fingers but ended up knocking it loose and sending it into the abyss behind that area. I did have the center console partly disassembled after that but I couldn't see it. Finding it would require taking the console out in its entirety, which isn't the simplest job so I said the heck with it. Whatever it was it can no longer be seen or heard.

I took a look at another 2019 TourX recently and for kicks I reached my fingers up into that area. Surprisingly I could feel a loosely attached plastic part similar (or perhaps identical) to mine. I stopped short of dislodging it, since the car was for sale at a dealer.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Perhaps the sensor for the key fob? The key fob tray is where you can place your fob if its battery is low. If the battery is too low to start the car from your pocket, or wherever you keep it, you can place it in the tray and the car should start. I had to do this myself, and the car started in spite of that plastic part having fallen down behind. I don't know.....

Managed to get some fair pics of the area. You can see the left opening back there above the key fob tray. Maybe someone can get a photo of theirs with the mystery part still there?

The GS I believe comes standard with a wireless charger and it is available as an option on other trim levels. I don't have one, but I'm pretty sure it's kinda like a pocket for your phone and that is the location where they are installed. Could that be what you've discovered?

I was just in my car and located the cutouts, also felt the wiggly thng on the drivers side and did not pursue as I don't want to call on the rattle gods.

The TourX has the charger under the armrest. Good thought though.
It may be tomorrow before I can get back to you, but I'll check the service manual wiring diagrams and see what I can find.

There are USB ports up there on the base model trim. I have wondered if I could easily wire them in for extra charging ports. It's entirely possible there is a wiring harness stub hanging out in there.

To the left of the cigarette lighter? Dual or single usb slots?
When equipped with RPO D07, an additional USB receptacle assembly is available in the front of the
console.
Why on earth wouldn't they be there in all models? I'd love to have that in our Preferred model!

It's a tab

that clips in & pivots inside the assemblytab_out.webp
(pic from backside with tab removed)

and has a locking effect on the sliding cover.

Still, i'd have to see a pic & maybe part # from the assembly with a usb port, because i couldn't find anywhere that usb receptacle would clip into ours 😕 and i couldn't find any extra wiring harness hanging around.

Huh, well it sure felt like that looks. Odd that it came out so easily. The cover opens and closes just fine without it, but thank you very much for all this!

You think those usb ports wire directly to the infotainment system as a data source?
It's just a single usb slot, right?

I can't find any pic or reference to such a usb port or associated wiring or console part #, except where the service manual reads;

😕

Speaking of USB ports, I pulled my HMI (Bosch NG 2.5 HMI) as part of my evaporator replacement project and I noticed there is an unused mini-USB connector. Before I reinstall the HMI, I’ll connect my original OEM USB module and see what happens.
