2011 Buick Regal ,2011 Buick LaCrosse 2.4
I have a 2011 Buick regal 2.4 federal emissions when I try to start it it turns but not your normal sound of starting a car it’s a free turn where the engine doesn’t turn but I see and hear the belt turn the crank turns but not engine do anyone knows what this sounds like ? Do I need a new engine or timing chain broke or what ?

Try a compression test. I believe the engine is an interference engine so pistons could hit valves if a chain breaks.
Has the engine been noisy prior to this problem?

If the crank and belt turn the motor is also turning. Like Mel said do a compression check, it sounds like you have a blown head gasket or damaged pistons.

How many miles on the car? Symptoms of a jumped timing chain. The engine sounds like it turns over easier, because like the others have suggested, there’s probably no compression. The best advice I’d give is don’t attempt to restart engine again. Remove timing cover and see if chain is loose. Verify timing marks. I’ve gotten lucky on a couple engines that jumped but didn’t smash valves. If valves hit, you need to pull head and replace them. Typically bends all 8 intake valves unfortunately.

it has like 316000 mile not sure but it says that it’s a non-interference motor online some people says It is and some say is not

I’ll check the Compression but I honestly think that it don’t have any compression someone told me that it could be the starter but it couldn’t be the starter because it’s turning didn’t stop turning in now it just clicks

Are used to turn but now it just clicks and I was told that it was the starter further inspection let me know I’ll do a compression check tomorrow and see if the chain has broken

Can you make a video of trying to start the engine and post it here because your explanation of what is happening is hard to understand. First you say the belt and crank turn now you say it just clicks.

I think the battery is low on power because you have been trying to start it so that's why it clicks. But you could have fried the starter trying to start it so that's a possibility too.

With 316000 miles on the engine it probably would be best to install a lower mileage used motor if the rest of the car is in good shape because it's not worth it to spend a lot of money fixing this tired engine.

Is that a typo? 316,000 miles? Good lord, I'd say that engine has served you very well.

Almost sounds like the starter isn't catching, solenoid is out, or battery related. Start with the simplest things. Never go to a mechanic saying "I think I need a new engine."

Given the level of expertise exhibited in the OP, I don't think this person will be tearing down a complicated engine in their driveway.

OP, have it towed to a qualified technician for a professional diagnosis.
