My name is Terry Trantham and I recently replaced the automatic transmission shifter assembly in my sister in laws 2014 Verano and now the parking break warning light is on and I didn't unplug or mess with it at all andbi also disconnected the battery while installing it and when I started it the parking break warning light and also parking break light as well but when I put it in gear either drive or reverse I feel a slight hesitation but then it releases and parking light goes off but parking break warning light stays on can anyone help me or tell me what has happened and maybe how to get the warning light to go off?¿ Thank you for your time

The disconnected battery may have effected the calibration of the Electric Parking Brake. There are multiple videos and posts. Try this one.

Thank you for your reply but I have already tried doing what the video suggested... What's confusing is I never touched the parking break and it doesn't have an emergency break and I thought just like you said that disconnecting the battery might had caused it to meet reset and the bad thing is now I'm responsible for it and had no idea it would cause this to happen si if you have any other suggestions besides taking it to the dealership because she's on a fixed income so any suggestions would be a blessing thank you so much for your response...

Emergency brake? That's what the parking brake is in a modern car. Take it to a private shop.

Yes I realize the parking break is considered the same as an emergency break but what I don't understand is when I replaced the broken shifter assembly with another shifter from the same make and yr it only had one wiring plug connected to it and I disconnected it from the old shifter and reconnected it to the the shifter I replaced it with and I never touched the parking break and it still had its wiring connected to it I checked it to make sure it didn't accidentally get disconnected so why is the parking break Maintenance light staying on ? Does it have a sensor that signals the computer when the shifter assembly is replaced and if so how do I reset it or does it have to be reset by a computer code ???
