This just gets better by the day. 96 Regal, 3.1L near 150k.
New plugs and wires, new fuel pressure regulator, maf sensor
replaced, egr valve replaced and plenum chamber cleaned, and
new fuel filter. Hard starting....10-12 tries. Then starts....doesent like it tho
as it runs rough. When it is started, seems to run very fine with
a tad of a miss. When it gets up to running temp and is good and warm
it will not start back up. It misses horribly and dies. It will not start up
again until the temp needle hits around the C level. Yes, I have spark
on all of the coils and the injectors all ohm out the exact same. I am leaning towards a fuel pump problem? The reason why is "pressure" When it does not want to start you can smell gas. Lack of pressure will do this as it is not getting the mist it needs. I have noticed that (recently) that when I turn on the ignition, I can not hear the pump. I try startin (when cold) and eventually it starts and runs fine. THEn, when I turn on the ignition (not starting) I can hear the pump. (wtf) NOW, I am having trouble with the ignition switch.....where that I turn the key to start, all lights are on and dash etc, but get nothing. then after a bit bam, starts cranking. Is it freakin possible that my (what I think) my fuel pump is not working up to spec, because of the ignition switch or I totally on the wrong path here. I am losing my frickin mind over this. Just dove it around for about 40 min, no problem, went out to start it and it said I dont think so. Is it the pump? Does the ignition control module have anything to do with the fuel pump? Is the ignition switch bad, and if so, why does it act up only when its hot. It used to start fine when cold by the way, start right up, now the opposite. Good grief, please help.....this is one boner I need to get rid of. Im ready to shoot it and put her out her (my) misery. I am going tomorrow for a fuel pressure test, hopefully that will shed some light on things I have tried pouring cold water on things that I thought were bad to no avail. thanks for reading and sorry for the long post, just wanted to be thouough. BTW, the check engine lite goes off if I dont try to (make it go) Then in a day or two, it goes off.
