Just wanted to move my 2015 LaCrosse a few feet down the driveway. I didn't want to start it. The last thing I want to do is start a car (or any internal combustion engine) when it won't have a chance to get thoroughly warmed up. All I wanted to do was shift it into Neutral and push it couple of feet. Couldn't figure out how to do it. The only way I could get the shifter to move was to start the car. I tried using just the accessory position (Start Button pushed without brake pedal applied) but that wouldn't unlock the shifter. And I tried pushing the brake pedal after putting it in accessory. No luck.

There must be a simple way to do this but I'm too dense to figure it out. No one would be stupid enough to design a car that can't be shifted into Neutral without starting it. Please enlighten me as to how I can do this. Thanks.

Edit: I hope this endeavor has better results than my attempt to find a way to disable the 'Adaptive' cruise control.

Ok... I just answered my own question. I did a Google search and it led me right back to this forum. Although the answer to this riddle does not seem to be published in the manual (I couldn't find it anyway), there is a way to do it. Here'a a link to the earlier thread with the same question:

Riddle me this... Shifting to Neutral without starting the car.

Just press and hold the 'Start' button for 5 seconds without depressing brake pedal. Car cycles into 'Run' position without starting engine. Shift lever can then be moved. Simple!
(Simple maybe... but I never would have figured it out without this forum. Thanks.)

Works that way in my 2010!

Roger that on solution. Now one time I shut off engine, not paying attention and put in neutral instead of park. Got out of car and it's rolling backwards- Leave it to me.
