About an hour away from home last night the battery light came on. I tried to make it home but after 15 minutes the "battery saver" warning came.on. After 15 more minutes, everything shut down except headlights and engine. I went ahead and pulled over and got my son to pick me up.

We removed the battery and charged it overnight. This morning we returned to the car, reinstalled the battery, but it won't turn over. When I push the ignition button, the instruments light up and the gauges cycle, but that's it. It doesn't crank.

I saw a strange message telling me to roll down the driver's side window and back up and then the same for the passenger window. What is going on?

You may have a problem with the battery and/or alternator. Or maybe some bad connection, or wire, or something else.

It is easiest to get the battery checked I suppose. Then go from there.

The window calibration function seems to come on after disconnecting the battery. That is not unusual.

The problem turned out to be a popped fuse in the battery fuse kit between the positive battery terminal and the positive lead to the starter. To test it, I removed the positive starter cable and attached it to the other post to bypass the fuse. The car started immediately.

I ordered a battery new fuse kit from Amazon for $20, which will do the trick.

the roll down window message is usually one that pops up on dic when the car is turned back on from completely dead. It is for programming the auto roll down and up feature. if the fuse popped, id test the alternator to make sure its not intermittently pushing too many volts. not a very common thing but never know.
