- 1998 Buick Century Custom
I have a 1998 Buick Century Custom with 220,000 miles. I bought it with 207,000 so I don’t know if/when the transmission has been serviced.
1 week ago on my way home from work, my check engine light came on. I ran the code with the fixD scanner I have and it says the code is p1870, transmission component slipping. It says to replace the transmission control module. I checked the tranny oil and it was a little low so I put a quart in and reset the light hoping it was that simple. A day ago it came on again, about a week later, same code. My question is, should I change the tranny oil and filter, reset the light, and see if that fixes it? Or should I jump right to replacing the control module? I don’t want to cause a larger issue down the road by not fixing the right thing off the bat, but I also don’t know if the fluid has ever been changed (or most likely WHEN it was changed last). Can code p1870 come on if it just needs a fluid change?
Thank you for any help you can give me!
