2002 Buick LeSabre
I have a 2002 LeSabre with just 74K miles which I've owned since 2022. It runs and drives great, but recently I am getting a very noticeable "chunk" sound and sharp accompanying vibration coming from the engine bay area once in a while when driving. Sometimes this happens once, sometimes it may happen a few times. This happens very fast, and it feels a little like the transmission is slipping.
My first thought was the transmission fluid might be old. I don't know if it was every changed, and it didn't look that bad, but I had it replaced today. However, I took it out and still got another "chunk," going about 55 MPH.
This noise happens at most any speed, and is even vaguely noticeable once in awhile when stopped at idle.
I doubt that a car with only 74K would have a transmission issue. Otherwise, the transmission is smooth and it shifts just fine. Could it be soft motor mounts? Misfire? Does anyone here have any ideas on what else it could be?
Would appreciate any advice or suggestions on what else to look into.
Thanks,
Eric

I should also add that when I had the transmission fluid changed today, the tech test drove the car with a scanner attached, and found no codes.

Despite the low miles a 24 year old car could have a few things either worn out or about to fail which could cause the issues that you describe. Unless we hear a recording of the noise there's no way of us knowing on this side of the screen.

My 2002 Lesabre shakes and shudders above 50mph. My first thought was the transmission. I discovered that the front control arm bushing are worn out. Have you checked them? They are kind of hard to see. They are rubber, and they are likely shot if they have never been replaced.
