Hey guys đź‘‹ new to the forum. I have an exhaust leak on my driver side headers. Back two bolts were broken so I'm going to drill them out.

I'm currently trying to get the steering shaft off. Taken one bolt off, but it seems like plastic piece at the end needs to come off with it. It's a pain! Any words of wisdom? Lol

What year is the Encore?

Are you replacing the manifold? I would. I went through this with my 66 Plymouth, also the rear studs. I replaced them and the studs promptly sheared off again. Turns out what happening was when the manifold got hot, it would warp shearing off the studs at the rear cylinder, and then returned to normal position when it cooled.

Here's a diagram on the steering shaft which may help on removal. Can't say on yours, but on other vehicles #12 and #20 seemed to be the ones I pulled, Cadillac and Chevy 60 vintage.

If you remove the bolt from the shaft on the firewall side all you have to do is pull it towards the front of the car. It's a slip fit and once you slip it off the shaft it will drop out of your way. I had to take mine loose recently to get the upper control arm off.
