I must have been out of the loop, I didn't hear about this, no mention on the board.

I got a Safety Recall Notice today for my 2007 Lacrosse for the Headlamp Driver Module (HDM), under campaign 14V-755.

I actually replaced the HDM in November 2013; coincidentally, it had failed just a few hours after having an annual inspection performed at the Buick dealer. Unfortunately it was Thanksgiving Eve, and so I couldn't go back right away. Once I'd cooled off and searched the internets at the time and found out about the relay, by Friday morning I'd decided it was better just to replace the part rather than screaming at the dealer hoping for a resolution. It wasn't expensive, less than $50, but hey.

From NHTSA.gov (looks like it came out in late November 2014):
[h=4]All Products Associated with this Recall [/h][h=5]Vehicle MakeModelModel Year(s)[/h][h=5]
  • BUICKLACROSSE2005-2009

SUMMARY:[/h]General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to then fail and not illuminate.[h=5]CONSEQUENCE:[/h]Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.[h=5]REMEDY:[/h]The remedy for this recall is still under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-462-8782 (GMC), 1-800-955-9007 (Saab). GM's number for this recall is 14291.[h=5]NOTES:[/h]Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

I hope you kept the receipt as in most cases you can be reimbursed for repairs that you had done that later showed up under a recall.

The notice says that the remedy for the recall is still under development, so the replacement that you bought is probably the same as the original - with the same potential problems. I'd let them go ahead and replace it with the "improved" version and also argue for your money back for the one you bought.

Yeah I saw that too. But the replacement was an aftermarket brand, not a genuine GM part. So it ought to be as good or better, ironically.
We're doing a frantic search for the receipt now, but not sure if we still have it. I'm not hurting over 50 bucks though.
