Hello, I have a 2003 Rendezvous with a bad engine. Has anyone ever pulled one of these motors out through the top? Most people said to pull it through the bottom subframe and all. I do not have a lift so this is not an option. I'm just wondering if the engine can be pulled from the top.
I'm stripping the motor down in the car and then I will see if it fits . The upper tie bar is welded in to this car so it can't be easily removed. Trying to pull it tomorrow so if you know, get back to me asap. 😕 Thanks, Chuck

I did, you have to remove it parts by parts, don't forget to put tags on your wires plug, and the hardest part to remove if I remember is the manifold and the steering hoses.

The other thing is that you have to put the new engine in separate parts, block, 2 head separately, maybe you can but I did not.

I kept my block inside because I had only a head broken and the crank was tested like a new, so I did put 2 new head on and put back all the rest. Engine runs very good since!

I took mine out through the top.... remove ignition pack ... alternator and alternator mount...remove power steering pump... and last remove ac compressor and front exhaust manifold

My brother and myself are replacing his 07 rendezvous engine and have no real idea what all we need to remove in order to take this out the top ..the engine is down to the tranny and now we are basically at a sticking point in this process , can u offer any information to help us get this thing out of the vehicle so the new engine can be installed ? My name is patrick and my email is [email address removed] also my number is [phone number removed] and i would greatly appreciate any and all help and information i can get and yes i am very mechanically inclined and have done many engine swaps , just not one on this particular vehicle .

Out the bottom is the quickest, fastest, and easiest option.

Fuel Lines, computer harness(es), exhaust, remove the upper 3 strut bolts on each side, set AC compressor off to the side or move forward and rest on the radiator support (can be done without removing the charge from the system), and separate the steering shaft slip yoke, 4 main cradle bolts, 2 large radiator hoses, 2 small heater core hoses, driveshaft (if AWD), and bobs your uncle.

It will come out as a complete assembly, engine, transmission, cradle, knuckles, suspension, steering. Then you can do whatever work you want.
