In my ever consuming desire to find out what suspension they (local place) put on my 2007 Buick Lucerne CXL... I have a question?
In my previous post entitled "2007 Lucerne suspension prob" I was wrestling with why my car wasn't riding the way it should. After several months of returning back to the place that completed replacing my struts and shocks (I went with Monroe quick strut replacement up front and the Monroe air shocks in the rear) I'm told they have finally figured out what THEY did wrong!
They claim the problem is... they put the wrong rear shocks on my CXL! Apparently they determined this by looking at RPO codes, down by spare tire...
They tell me I have "Towing & Hauling" shocks on there when in fact I should have the "firm' air shocks (the correct code is F40 or F41??). They admit to this being their mistake and are not only going to replace the rear shocks, but they are going to go with the AC Delco option. All at their expense. I'm told these are considerably MORE expensive then the Monroe's, but they will be better suited for my car, because the Monroe's will require some kind of conversion/makeshift arrangement...
My question is this:
If they messed up the rear shocks this way, is it fair to assume I have the wrong Monroe quick struts up front also? And would I be able to know by looking at them?
Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I put Monroe Quick Struts on my wife's car. The fellow simply asked if I had the 6 or 8 cylinder, and brought out two boxes. I am guessing there are only two Monroe makes for the Lucerne and the only variable is engine weight. I do not believe one can tell which was installed on your car just by looking at them. Why not ask the installer for the Monroe product number they installed, and then go to the Monroe site, or some other parts seller on the net, and look up front struts for your car. When the site comes up with the proper struts for your car, see if it is the same product number installed on your car.

Polarzak, is the part number you used on your Buick?
Part number: 172321
Manufacturer: Monroe Shocks & Struts

Thanks
Earl

Hello Earl,

Yes, that was the part number. Remember mine is an 06, so I am not sure if it is the same for your 10.

James.

That is what comes up when I plug in all the specifications.
I think I will go ahead and order the pair. I have a Wrenching friend who will install very reasonable.
Should be pretty straightforward and not require a front end alignment.
Thanks for the info.
You are a lot of help on this site.

You will not need an alignment. The bolt holes are completely round so there is nothing to adjust. Not sure how mechanically inclined you are (or perhaps you just don't want to do it) but is was a real easy job to do myself. Whatever the case, I think you will find the car rides and handles so much better. It certainly was the case with ours, and the boss (the Mrs.) commented how nice it was for weeks after the installation.
Oh, and thanks for the kind words.

Thanks, and I am looking forward to the "new car ride".
It only has 49,800 miles but it is going on 7 years old and the front end seems a bit bouncy at times.
I will report when the new ones are installed.

Quick Struts are ordered.
Will be here Monday 7th.
Now to get them installed.
I am looking forward to the improved ride.

The Quick Struts arrived yesterday.
I contacted my Mechanic friend and he came to pick up the car.
Brought it back to me this morning with new Quick Struts installed.
Now, about the cost.
I had a shop quote me 2-new Quick Struts plus installation.
Total drive out quote-$1,306.70.

I actually ordered them from Amazon Prime at $325.20 tax included for the pair. $150.21 each plus tax.
$50.00 total for installation.
$375.20 vs. $1,306.20 is quite a difference.
The guy at the repair shop called to see what I thought and I told him I was still taking oxygen after reading his quote.
Anyway, my Buick is now riding great and sitting "purty".

Hello Earl. Excellent news and very reasonable price to have them installed. Nothing like saving over $900 dollars.
James.
