I saw another thread here today on the subject of seat memories, and it prompted me to ask about my issue, which is slightly different.

I bought my 2013 new. I have the PEPS remote (passive entry, passive start) and two seat memories. I set the car up right from the start using Memory 1 to store my seat and mirror preferences. I also set it up so that the seat moves back completely when I turn the car off and open the door to make it easier for me to get out of and into the car. The seat is supposed to return to the previously selected memory position upon unlocking and opening the driver's door.

I understand that the memory position it returns to is unrelated to the remote I'm using (my wife has her own remote); i.e., the remote does not store seat memory preferences. I've consulted the manual and a few posts that have appeared here over the years and, by and large, I've been pretty happy with how the system works.

In the fullness of time, I've begun noticing that the seat sometimes does not return to my Memory 1 settings when I unlock to car to get in. In these cases, when I select Memory 1 manually, the settings are not the ones I chose; i.e., the Memory 1 settings had changed. So, I reset Memory 1 and the system works fine for awhile, until it somehow changes Memory 1 again, whereupon I reset and repeat.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Is there a way to "fix" it, or is this one of those "quirks" we just have to deal with. I recoginize my car is 10 years old now and I've had very good luck with it, so I'm loathe to complain about this.

Thanks for any opinions.

I have never used the seat memory function on my '13 LaCrosse.I just leave the seat all the way back because I need all the legroom I can get. The loss of the memory function is fairly common on gm vehicles. It has been suggested that it is a software defect, but, possibly not.

What I would do for something like this is to clean the battery terminals real well and look for any corroded grounds in the engine compartment and just clean the grounds to ensure good contact, in general. I don't know if this will help, but if it is losing the memory, it seems like the circuit may be interrupted, as a possibility. If the battery is disconnected, for example, from what I recall, this clears the seat memory.

Is there anything behind the seat that would limit the travel? That might also be something to check.

Thanks for the feedback. My battery terminals are pretty clean; I've replaced the battery myself a couple times and see to that. I don't know about any grounds in the engine compartment though.

A bit of additional information: Just yesterday, the seat failed to return to the "Memory 1" location when I got back into the car, but when I pressed the Memory 1 button, it did. In other words, the problem is not always "forgetting" the settings.

I'm thinking this problem involves software or firmware. It's not a big deal for me, just a minor annoyance. I'm still curious, though, if others have experienced this kind of problem.

I am have this issue right now. The memory function worked well for a long time, had my car since new in 2018 and in the last 6 months or so it has started to "reset" both memory settings to a default setting that almost puts me through the windshield! I am the only primary driver and we only have one key fob {other is in a lake} so it is not getting reset or confusing the key fobs. Brand new battery in the fob since this started, did the terminal thing, have checked battery voltage all is good. When I reset both 1 and 2 to my desired setting and the exit, it works for 2 or 3 days, maybe a week and then all of a sudden I am being pushed into the window when I get in again. 🙁 Going to try and turn the function off completed in driver preferences but I am not even sure I have all the features in the system settings it says I should see. 🙁
