My church started doing an open car show last year. We had over fifty cars the first year and over ninety entries this year. As a thank you to the car owners for bringing out their cars we offer to photograph their vehicle and give them a cd when they leave of half a dozen professional photos. I have been a photographer for over 12 years and this is one of my favorite gigs. The show took place from noon to 3pm, the worst time of day to photograph cars. And the fact that we had to photgraph on the grass and out in the direct sunlight made the job difficult. I took a few test shots using my car and thought you may want to see them.

I did not show my car...... Maybe after another $20k I'd consider it.

It was blazing hot that day(upper 90's) and I shot over 40 cars. Here are a few of my favorites from the show

This was my favorite rat rod. He called it his "knuckle dagger". Actually built on a motorhome frame. The stacks could shoot flames!

Anyone recognize the color of this one? MAB! The owner looked at me funny when I told him that his truck was medium adriatic blue and that I had a car the same color in the parking lot.

Lambo doors!

Several Chargers in the show but this was the best one there. The camera had a hard time with the color.

I just like what my polarizer did with the paint job. Cool flames!

This Roush stang belongs to my buddy. He wins lots of races and shows with it.

I have always been a portrait photographer by trade so shooting cars is not what I am used to. But I really have fun talking to the owners as they brought me their prized possesions.
Hope you liked seeing them.

Nice! What makes that time of day and on the grass so difficult?

Shooting in the middle of the day with direct and very bright sunlight is not good for photographing anything that is shiny. Automobile photography is all about taking control of the reflections. Grass is not the best thing to be in the reflection on a car. I did what I could by taking photos at extreme angles either high up by standing on a ladder or low by laying on the ground. I also used a polarizer to reduce glare and increase contrast. I also used an on camera flash to help fill in the shadows.

Really, really nice pics! I like these. I am an amateur photographer and would definitely agree that lightning and reflection are both very difficult to get right in broad daylight. Here are a couple photos I recently took of my car.

I used a corn field for the background. We have a lot of corn fields in Illinois.

Here it is head on. The grills on these cares are enormous.
