I am Brazilian and owner of a Buick Riviera 84.
I was replacing the left seal of the differential, after removing the CV axle, in southern Brazil, and found a problem.
After give the output shaft flange a few sharp taps to pop loose the internal snap-ring, I did not find it.
It broke and fell into the differential or it was not installed? Is it necessary?
Who has that ring? GM part number or code? How to get one?
I speak only German and Portuguese, but write a regular english.
Can someone help me?

Helo MelsRegal.
Thank you for your prompt response.
But the ring does not appear in the diagram.
This ring is part of the differential (FWD) of THM325-4L transmission and the link provided does not appear this part in the figure. Would you know how to find the GM number of this piece?
I'd appreciate any additional help that let me find this item. Thanks again.

Hello Mels.

I have not really found the ring in the differential image.
I am beginning to doubt the necessity of it. Or is he shown along with the shaft flange? It is the question.
I will try to look for some experts in transmission because I get another week in Orlando.

Tanks...

axlesnapring.gifHi Arnold, I'm guessing you mean this snap ring, on the end of the axleshaft in the splines? If you think it's in the differential, use a magnet and find it or it's pieces, it will not do the transaxle any good when it gets caught up in moving parts.

Also, it needs to be replaced, as it keeps the axleshaft from coming out of the diff/transaxle on its own. I don't know that you can find the part sold on its own? You may have to find one in a junkyard. If you have no luck locally let me know, I make it out to the you-pull lots frequently and will look for one.

Good luck!

Thank BC.
Now I am sure that the snap-ring exists. You gave me a drawing in which it appears.
I do not think it will find some in the last 5 days I'll be in the US. I accept your help to find one. Notify me find one to combine shipping.
Thank you so much.

Does anyone know any junkyard here near Orlando that has one of the FWD (front wheel drive) cars? Cadillac Eldorado, Buick Riviera and Oldsmobile Toronado between 79 and 85 shared this transmission system. I'll keep looking ..
