I have been having a bit of a rough idle, so this morning, (with a cold engine) decided to remove the throttle body completely and just give it a good cleaning. After disconnecting the negative batter cable, removing all the vacuum and electrical connections to the throttle body, I began removing the 10mm nuts. Once I removed the three 10mm nuts that mount the throttle body to the supercharger, liquid starting pouring out of the bottom of the throttle body!

The liquid smelled like water and had about the same consistency. Not thick like oil or anything. But it had a slightly pink color to it.

Anyways, what is this liquid? Could it be the supercharger oil? I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. HELP!

It is probably water and antifreeze since there is a water passage from the TB to the LIM to heat the incoming heat. At least my nonsuppercharged LIM is made that way.

That's what I was thinking. How do I combat this when removing the throttle body? Will a lot come out, or just a little?

Thank you.

The best way is to drain the radiator down below the level of the thermostat and LIM.

Thanks for your help! I will do that.

A new throttle body gasket would be a good idea also. Pull the MAF sensor and clean that also with the proper cleaner. Hell, while it's off do the IAC too.

Since I realized that I wasn't going to be taking the throttle body off at the time, I cleaned all the sensors on it including the IAC Valve and that seemed to help the rough idle quite a bit. But just by looking in the IACV hole, I could see that the throttle body would certainly benefit from a good cleaning. (lots of carbon buildup.)

I will definitely get a new gasket. Is there any issues with using carb/choke cleaner on the internal components of the throttle body?

Yes you will have to bleed the system. I'd do it just for good measure anyway. LOL

Not on the throttle body itself but don't get it on the MAF sensor.
