Hey guys,

Really disappointed in my Regal. At 81,000 miles the timing chain snapped. This was 1 year after the warranty expired so there's no recourse... I have contacted Buick and will get them documentation on it but I'm hoping something can be done. I ended up getting the engine replaced with a 9,000 mile EcoTec by a 3rd party mechanic because I needed it fix before I left for my 3 week vacation and needed a car when I was back.... has anyone heard that?

I have to review my documents but I had some bad sensors replaced under warranty that now I think meant the engine timing chain was bad... going through the documents to see, I believe it was the crankshaft sensor or the other one... sorry not a car guy 🙁

Ecotec's usually will have a tensioner go way before a chain and you usually have a warning because you can hear the rattle of the timing chain. Whomever maintains your car never mentioned a rattling noise?

Regular oil changes are key to these timing chain issues, how often did you change your oil and filter, and stay away from extended oil changes.

I've never noticed the rattling... I just got regular oil changes.

I did them every 5,000 miles or so... is that too long? It's using synthetic.

Synthetic oils should last way beyond 5-K miles, so the problem is not with neglected oil/filter changes, but rather with inferior internal cam tensioners and bicycle quality cam chain drives.

Thanks... I am running a timeline of stuff that happened.. I know for a fact they changed out the cam sensor at some point under warranty but the issues kept happening which makes me think I had a bad timing chain from the start... 🙁 hoping they can do something... it's embarrassing for that to happen at 81,000.... 🙁

No problem, might be a long shot but I would ask if this may also apply to yours, worse thing is they say no. Good luck on this.

Thank you! I will try to see...
