Buick Ownership
Envision Avenir
I have a 2022 Envision Avenir AWD in excellent condition with just 7200 miles. Fully loaded. KBB says value is 39000 to 42000. Dealer only wants to offer 35,500 as trade on a 23 model. I’m getting hosed aren’t I?

Did you figure in the sales tax you are saving on 35.5k?

Yes, you are getting ripped off! There is a big difference in trade in value & selling price! The stealer/dealer can make about 10k on that trade! If you really want the new vehicle, sell the car first on open forums, do not trade it!

KBB is just one source. I would suggest you shop the car around (Carvana, CarMax, local dealers) and see what kind of other offers you get. It doesn't mean you have to sell to any of them but if at least one gives you a higher offer, you can use it as a negotiating tool at the dealer you are looking to buy from.

If one of the other offers is significantly higher and the dealer you are looking to buy from isn't willing to budge, it may be worth selling the car for the higher offer. This can depend on how your state calculates sales tax with trades versus without.

Of course, another option is try to sell it yourself but you may or may not be comfortable doing so.
