 My car is currently at the dealership being fixed for something not related to the recall. They tell me it's one of the recalled vehicles for the faulty ignition switch but they can't fix it until the end of October! They're telling me to drive using only the car key, nothing hanging from it. Anyone else have to risk their lives waiting on General Motors to fix their F-up that they've been trying to hide? Is this even legal?

From what I have read, the Lucerne switch problem is a little different from the small cars that were recalled earlier. Not sure what, however I have no concerns with my 06. Nothing but the fob has ever hung from it (bought it new) ....and from what I have read...GM doesn't replace the switch in the Lucerne like they did in the other recall. In the Lucerne they only take your key and fill the hole so nothing else can be attached to the key except the fob. They don't fix the ignition switch, that just make it impossible to hang anything else from the key. In other words, if you have not killed yourself in your Lucerne by now, you won't be able to hang anything else off the key, have an accident, and then blame it on GM. Anyway, that is what I have read on the Internet...it might be all hooey, but again, I am not concerned. Haven't got my recall yet, and wouldn't bother to go to the dealer anyway, but I would be interested to know what the dealer actually does.

same fix related to me by my service manager. nothing to do with the switch.

Got my recall today and by the looks of it, what I read previously was correct. Seems thy just put an extremely small ring to connect the fob to the key, and there is no way you can hang anything else off the key. Not going to bother taking my keys in.

that's all they did for our vehicle. wife is not happy.

Same for me. The guy at the dealership said it is nothing to worry about unless I planned on taking my car offroading. Not sure how that is supposed to help me if I get into an accident. It's ridiculous.
