Buick Ownership
Park Avenue
Alright, I'm at a loss. I drive a 1995 Buick Park Avenue VIN K, with just over 100,000 miles. The MIL is illuminated with code P0361 (Ignition Coil K malfunction). There are no other codes or misfire codes specifically. Now to my understanding, Ignition coil K means cylinder 11. I've been looking all over my V6 for the 11th cylinder!!! (Joking). Is there any reason this code would pop up, especially since the Park Avenue was never made in a 12 cylinder model? I'm curious why the computer even knows that code. Has anyone experienced this? I haven't noticed any symptoms. No stalling or bad starting. No rough idling. No extra fuel consumption. I haven't run too many tests yet, but have used an In-line spark tester to verify that each coil pack IS producing spark. Whether it's enough spark, I dont know. But there is spark. Spark plugs all have the correct gap and do not appear worn. They look fairly new. I'm not sure what is causing the MIL. Somewhere i read crankshaft position sensor? Thoughts?

I think that the #11 Codes may read different on different scanners. It may be cylinder #2 misfiring. Do you have any individual misfires, when looking at MOST RECENT misfires? You need to drive the car with scanner hooked up to the OBD-1.5 port and look at all individual cylinder misfires, if that particular scanner has that capability. It may not have that option, since that become common with the '96 OBD11 system. Something you will have to figure out.

If it was cylinder 2, shouldn't the code read P0352 or even say Ignition Coil B? It's strange that it jumped right to K. I do not think my scanner has the capability to monitor misfires while driving. I'll look into finding someone who does

Cylinder #2 misfire should be P0302!

Yes you're correct. A misfire would be. I was referring to the Ignition coil malfunction since that is the code I'm currently getting. I did a little more digging and discovered that because it is a 95, it was a transitional year for GM. The car has an OBD2 connector Port, but isnt compatible with most OBD2 devices. It's possible I was actually getting an inaccurate code. Accurate codes can be read by bridging the pins 3 and 4 and reading the service light flashes. I will try that and see if I pull any codes from that!

Sorry. but that bridging of the 3 and 4 pins will NOT work on an OBD1.5 '94-'95system. There is no particular code for a coil malfunction, it only reads as a misfire on any given cylinder!
